Family strengthening
Our Family Strengthening Program works directly with the families of children who have been resettled after experiencing life on the streets. We recognise that poverty and family instability are often the root causes that lead children to leave home. Because of this, we focus on addressing challenges at the family level, not only supporting the child in isolation.
We believe that simply returning a child home without addressing the underlying issues is not enough. When the same pressures remain, there is a real risk that children may return to street life. Our approach therefore centres on long-term, practical support that helps families build stability and resilience.
Through close and ongoing engagement, we provide family assessments, regular home visits, parenting support, nutrition and wellbeing education, and referrals to health and social services where needed. We also offer practical assistance during times of crisis, including emergency rental support, food relief, and access to urgent medical care.
Alongside this, we support children’s education through sponsorship, helping to ensure they have the materials and opportunities they need to attend school and succeed. We conduct regular follow-ups both at home and at school to monitor attendance, progress, and overall wellbeing.
By partnering with families over the long term, we are able to respond to immediate needs while also working toward lasting change. Our goal is to see families become stable and self-reliant, and for children to access consistent, quality education in a safe and supportive home environment.
